I agree that control is the main issue. In my personal experience I have found that I need to have control over my young children. There is nothing worse than having a child act up because things are not going his/her way. There is no way anyone can rationalize with a 2-6 year old. The spanking (I”M NOT TALKING ABOUT CHILD ABUSE) is a means to get their attention so that they will get a clear idea of who is in charge. Kids should never be in charge!

I will not go as far to saw that spanking is wrong, but I will say that spanking to keep control over your kids is wrong. We need to realize that the only person we can control is self. I think we’d find ourselves having to discipline less if we recognized this because a good portion of our struggles with our children boil down to a battle for control. If control our kids now, when does it stop? We need to teach them and guide them to learn to effectively control themselves. This doesn’t happen by controling them. Alfie Kohn, author of Unconditional Parenting says, that kids learn to make good decisions by making decisions, not by following instructions. Remember, a strong-willed kid isn’t a bad thing, but we need to make sure that we aren’t forcing them to bend to our will, as there are also strong-willed parents too.
